When I first moved to Sydney, I temped as an admin assistant at a construction/engineer firm on the top floor of a swanky office building. It was the absolute last place I imagined myself working, they offered me a six month contract and that’s all I cared about. And, much to my surprise, I met some great people there and actually enjoyed going to work (work was basically compiling safety reports and keeping my chair warm, so even though I was pretty restless, it was pretty cush). Here we are again – winter edition!
Game of Thrones has ended (unquestionably conflicted).
The season has changed (unquestionably cold).
Work is busy (unquestionably busy).
Sickness is rampant (unquestionably lame: food sickness, cold, flu).
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Continue reading “Catchup.com”
After waiting almost a year and a half for this season, I knew it would be the most stressful 6 weeks of my life. And sheeeeeeew if I wasn’t right about that. Continue reading “Game of Heart Palpitations”
Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday are public holidays here, which means 4 day weekend, baby! I imagined 4 days of no alarms and no waking up before 9AM, of cloudy skies and sweatpants weather, of not having to wait until 8PM to watch Game of Thrones.
What I got, however, was 4 days of “beautiful” weather (warm/almost hot, not a cloud in the sky), and unintentionally waking up at 5:30AM every day. Continue reading “Small Hours”
It hasn’t been a good week for me, in terms of media.

“Imagine if you had to re-learn how to sit in a chair every time you walked into a room. Or re-learn how to open a door every time you approached a door handle. You’d go mad.”
I nodded. Continue reading “Learning to Unlearn”
It’s April! Already! Woo!
As I said in my last post, I think summer is officially out the door. And good riddance, humidity! Per usual, lots happened this summer – but also, nothing happened. We can sum up the first few months in just a few words: work, sick, friends, Pancake.
And while I’m working on some actual posts (including words and insights), here’s a big fat photo dump of the year thus far: Continue reading “2019 quarterly review”
The first day of autumn here in Sydney is March 1. I look forward to autumn the way people look forward to Christmas. I always expect to wake up to cold mornings and frost, but it never happens. Autumn may “start” on 1 March, but it stays summer well into April. But now we’re at the edge of April… and autumn is starting to peek through. Continue reading “Gettin’ crisp”
There’s a lot of things to love about summer in Sydney.
First, there’s like, 7 months of it. Second, not only is it SUPER hot, it’s also SUPER humid. Third, there are beaches everywhere, and only 98% of them have sharks. Next, only about half of the houses have a/c, so you have to keep the windows open to get a breeze, which gives you a chance to get to know your fine wing-ed neighbours: cockroaches, flies, and mosquitos. We can’t forget the mosquito. Continue reading “Kar-ma Karma Karma mosquito”
So officially I stopped caring about the Oscars somewhere between 2000 – 2001. Continue reading “Audpodge Oscar Picks*”
